Solo agers are individuals who grow older without the traditional support systems of a spouse, children, or close family members. This lack of support poses unique challenges to seniors that those with families don't have. This demographic is becoming increasingly significant as societal structures evolve and the number of childless adults rises. More Seniors are divorced, never married or outlived their spouses than ever before. 22 million over 55 live alone. 17% of Boomers do not have adult children to take care of them, 22% are at risk due to lack of family or spousal support. This is double that of previous generations. Understanding the unique challenges faced by solo agers, and how they can maintain both mental and physical health, is crucial for ensuring they lead fulfilling lives. and encouragement to create a life of meaning, purpose and fun. As we go forward, we will address each of these issues in more detail.




Defining Solo Agers

Solo agers, also known as elder orphans, are older adults who do not have a partner, children or close family members to rely on as they age. This can result from various life choices or circumstances, such as remaining single, being divorced, or having outlived a spouse and siblings.
